Charter Professional Enhancement Programs
Leadership Development that Leads to Change
WHAT IS C-PEP?
C-PEP is an intensive professional development program that strengthens education in North Carolina by enhancing leadership, management, and instructional skills for current and future public charter school leaders. C-PEP is specifically tailored for current and future public charter school administrators, teachers and board members.
WHY C-PEP MATTERS
Effective leadership is the key to any organization’s success. If North Carolina’s public charter schools are to be effective over the long term, charter school leaders must demonstrate effective leadership both in the classroom and in running the business side of their schools. C-PEP is an intensive, hands-on professional development program that provides our state’s charter school leaders with the knowledge, skills and information they need to effectively lead and ensure that their schools are providing our children with the best education possible.
Administrators and Teachers: Administrators and Teachers who are selected for C-PEP will meet four times over the course of a school year. Each session will be two-and-a-half days long and will begin with a Sunday evening session. The cost is $750 per administrator or teacher for Alliance members or $1000 per administrator or teacher for non-members. The fee includes lunch, training materials and sessions, and coaching for the school year.
Charter School Board Members: Members of charter schools’ governing boards will meet once during the Fall and once during the Spring. These meetings will consist of both networking opportunities and structured break-out sessions. The cost per board member is $35 per session and includes break-out sessions, materials and a meal. Final schedules will be announced soon.
Administrators Leadership Policies and Standards
This intensive training provides current and aspiring charter school administrators with a practical, hands-on experience that arms them with the foundations, tools, and skills they need to lead their schools. This module covers a number of topics, including data optimization for better decision-making, reviewing the N.C. Principal Evaluation instrument to prepare for performance evaluations, and more. We will seek to have your learning group reflect the five regions of North Carolina. Participation is limited to 24 principals, assistant principals or aspiring principals.
Teachers Teaching Teachers
This innovative module centers on a school team composed of a master and novice teacher, who effectively collaborate to transmit Common Core strategies in their specific school setting. The value derived from this partnership is two-fold: enhanced support of novice teachers and the advancement and further growth of veteran teachers. During this module participants will explore the connection between teacher success and student success as they gain real-life, real-time skills for immediate implementation in the classroom.
Governing Board Leadership Policies and Standards (Registration details forthcoming)
This module focuses on the high-level operational and legal issues involved in effectively governing a public charter school. These sessions will equip board members with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively oversee their schools. Additionally, these sessions will provide participants with the opportunity to network with and learn from board members representing other public charter schools.
