Raleigh– Senators Jerry Tillman and Dan Soucek introduced legislation for charter schools that creates a new governing board and brings the funding language into alignment with recent Supreme Court rulings, announced former Senator Debbie Clary, a board member in charge of Governmental Relations for the NC Alliance for Public Charter Schools.

Ms. Clary retired from her NC Senate seat in January of 2012, after serving seven terms in the NC House and two terms in the Senate for a total of 18 years in the NC General Assembly. She served as Appropriations Chair during her tenure in the legislature and knows the importance of investing in education combined with good education policy.As a House member, her efforts for education began as she co-sponsored the original Charter School Act in 1995-96 and culminated with her helping to lift the 100-school cap in 2010. Her dedication to education continues in her role as a Director for the NC Alliance for Charter Schools and as Chair of the Board of Pinnacle Classical Academy in Shelby, NC.
